Doocey Group on behalf of South Staffs Water & Midland Metro Alliance carried out work on the diversion of water mains at Castle Hill, Dudley. Works will enable Midland Metro Alliance to construct the new Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro Extension.
The diversion was carried out in a busy location next to Dudley Castle and Zoo, close to Dudley town centre. There were a huge amount of existing underground assets to be negotiated. Joint working was key with third party stakeholders, service providers and the local Highways Authority maintainingthe traffic flows and safe transportation through our areas of work helping to minimise the disruption of the local population.
Coordination was essential to this project. Monthly meetings were held at the local Dudley town hall where all stakeholders attended to receive regular updates for ongoing works. All future project updates were discussed to avoid clashes and ensure a smooth and progressive programme of works.
To accommodate our works on Castle Hill, there was a requirement to remove the existing central reservation. Doocey Traffic Management were able to maintain the vital route by installing the required two way traffic flow. The existing 20” cast iron main was then accessible for Doocey Group to replace with the new 400mm PE main in preparation for the new tram line construction to take place.
